What is the Attendance Matters Project?
The Attendance Matters Project is an effort to increase attendance and communication with families in the Pacifica School District. Pacifica School District has partnered with In Class Today to raise awareness about the importance of school attendance by mailing updates and reminders to students’ families.
Who is In Class Today?

Who approved the Attendance Matters Project?
The Attendance Matters Project was approved by the Pacifica School District.
Why is school attendance important?
When students are not in school, they are missing out on learning and can easily fall behind. The more students miss school, the harder it is for them to catch up. Reducing absences means students have more opportunities to succeed in school.
Why did I get the mailing?
The mailings were sent to addresses on file with Pacifica School District to communicate with families about the importance of school attendance. If you believe the address is incorrect, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. The mailings are being sent to students who have missed at least some school.
Why did I receive this mailing if all of my student’s absences were excused?
The number of absences listed on the mailing includes both excused and unexcused absences. While we understand that there are times when a student must be absent from school, the goal of the mailing is to increase attendance when possible and to increase communication with families about their students.
Why do you have information about my student and how did you get it?
The Attendance Matters Project is a partnership between the Pacifica School District and In Class Today. Pacifica School District only shared the data with In Class Today that was needed to help with the mailings.
How is student data protected?
It is very important to both the Pacifica School District and In Class Today that all data is kept confidential and secure. All project protocols are fully compliant with Pacifica School District policies and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA is a set of strict federal laws that governs the use of student data for projects like the Attendance Matters project. Both Pacifica School District and In Class Today are using extreme caution and care to make sure all student information is kept safe and secure.
Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns?
If you believe that the number of absences listed on the mailing is incorrect, please contact your student’s school to speak with the school secretary. If the address is incorrect, you may email email@example.com with the name and address on the front of the mailing. If you have any additional questions or concerns, you can send them to the same address above, firstname.lastname@example.org.
